Hi! Every month or so, I will be sending out a newsletter explaining the things that I’m working on and what God is doing within the various ministry initiatives that I am a part of in the city. These newsletters will be more of an objective overview of what happened that month, whereas I will use the blog to explain my thoughts, reflections, videos, stories, and experiences along the way. Feel free to subscribe to either – and let me know what is happening in your life so I can be praying for you as well!
Here is the text from my first newsletter, sent out on September 25, 2011:
10 Days Boston:
Last spring, I was asked by a local pastor to help plan the 10 Days of Prayer this fall. 10 Days is a movement to bring together various Christian churches for ten days of fasting, prayer and worship, with an emphasis on longing for Christ’s return. As we prayed about it, we felt that the Lord was leading us to pursue the 10 days taking place in the Boston area this year. As we began to organize pastors and leaders for this movement, we experienced many open doors and grace in planning.
From September 29 to October 9, daytime prayer and nighttime worship gatherings will be happening in churches throughout the city. I am in charge of orchestrating the evening gatherings, which include:
-A Korean night of prayer
– A gathering hosted by Arabic and Messianic Jewish congregations
– Two historic churches in Boston (Tremont Temple and Park Street) coming together to host an evening
– A worship night integrating nine churches in Cambridge
The 10 Days culminates in the Boston Night of Worship, which involves dozens of local worship leaders and more than 8,000 Christians. I have completely committed myself to prayer and fasting during these ten days and will not be working my part-time job. We are believing God to move in a big way during this time! How many times does your conversation revolve around the “easy” questions – your name, where you are from, what you do. We rarely have time and opportunity to “go deeper” with people, especially if we only see them on a Sunday morning worship gathering. This is something that Robin and I noticed, and we have started a small group to address this need. The group’s name is “Getting Beyond Hello…” and people from Journey Church we will be meeting every Tuesday night starting in October at Robin’s house to engage in art, music, and conversation starters, to help us grow deeper in our relationships with one another
In early September, five young women gathered together in a small coffee shop in Cambridge, MA. This was the first UniteBoston connecting team meeting of the fall, who desires to make connections with one person in every church and ministry in the city. Although we come from various church and career backgrounds, we all have a passion for unity in the city. I oversee this team and tonight we discussed our team goals. Separately, each person prayed to see how many churches and ministries she could realistically meet with by the end of the year. Amazingly, as we went around the circle, each person said, “ten” – they could commit to making ten new connections with churches and ministries by the end of the year, which would increase the number of total connections we have made by 150%! Additionally, one of the girls suggested that we present about UniteBoston in front of the congregations to help strengthen the connections we are making. This is brilliant – after working alone all summer, I came away from the meeting with an increased appreciation for the power of team. We are truly better together!
